I gotta admit I’m not a huge boxing fan. I respect the sport immensely but I feel the money grab that is Pay-Per-View has pretty much destroyed the sport. Very few fights are worth 60 bucks. Take last weekend. I really wanted to get the Pacquiao Hatton fight. Manny is just disgustingly good and Hatton is awesome too. It really had the makings of being an awesome fight. Well Pacquiao pummeled Hatton and the fight was over by round 2. I’ve only seen highlights and it seemed like an exciting five minutes but that’s all it was – five minutes. Yes you get under cards and no one can know how the fight is going to go but still, I would’ve felt ripped off if I paid 60 bucks for that fight.
But I digress.
Sports gaming is a fickle thing for me. I love sports. I watch ESPN like its my job. And these days it might as well be. Anyone who knows me personally will vouch for me being a sports junky. But when it comes to playing video games based on sports I don’t do it. I am trying to think of the last sports game I bought and I just can’t think of it. Probably something during the 16-bit era. It’s not that I don’t like the games. I find them enjoyable but it sucks being able to destroy the Red Sox 35 – 4 in a game and then watch the real Yankees cock up every game they play against the stupid sox. Also the rosters are ALWAYS out of date. ALWAYS. And that’s something that is inexcusable in a time when you PAY TO PLAY ONLINE. Think about it. Why aren’t rosters kept up to date for at least the year the game comes out? You bought the game for 60 bucks and are paying monthly to be able to play it online which is half the point of sports games nowadays. It’s shameful really.
Also if they do this already and I’m unaware of it – sweet.
But the first sports game that I’m truly excited for to the point that I may actually buy it is Fight Night Round 4. Look at that screen shot. Look at it. It’s actual gameplay. It looks that good. Plus every boxer has their own fighting style and junk. Bunch of crap I don’t care about.
Look at it. It’s so pretty.

Now I can’t wait for the game to arrive via Gamefly so I can delve into it. It may suck or it may just captivate me. The list of the boxers in the game is extensive.
So with Arkham Asylum being pushed back to the typical release window this game maybe the only interesting thing coming out this summer. Game wise that is. To me. At this time.
