remakes

Artist Orioto over on Deviant Art seems to like getting my hopes up. Then crushing my heart with the weight of a 1000 suns. You see, he’s in the business of recreating classic video game scenes using updated graphics technologies (photoshop). The result, as you can plainly see, is nothing short of breathtaking.

You may ask: So where does the soul crushing come in? I’ll tell you folks. These are only stills, these games do not exist in this state now, or will they ever I’m guessing. These remakes are the work and sweat of one person. A person who enjoys sharing his pain with the world. And that folks, is what keeps me up at night.

Imagine scrolling through that Mario World, the level living and breathing around you in full, rich vibrancy. Imagine Megaman running along rain slick roof tops, battling the minions of Dr. Wily. I’m telling you, it’s choking me up right now.

His work on these two along with Link to the Past are particularly amazing. I mean we’re encroaching on Braid territory here. Publishers take note, people would buy remakes like these. You’d make a lot of money.

So, in the end, thank you Orioto. Your work is as inspiring as it is beautiful. And to you dear readers, if you’re feeling particularly masochistic head over and check out his gallery for the full resolution stuff. Many of these make excellent wallpapers, if you don’t mind staring at something beautiful and soul crushing at the same time.
