psp-go

Well it looks like all of those rumors are true. The PSP Go is real. Via a massive fuck up on Sony’s part the PSP Go has all but been confirmed through an issue of Qore. You know that magazine no one buys on the PS3. It has no UMD and will have 16 gigs of internal memory. Will have Bluetooth and a Memorystick slot. Also it slides out. Still only one nub to play games on but I truly doubt this is for games. It can play games but its real purpose is probably make it easier to justify buying music and movies from the Sony store. Is this the future for us? 20 different handheld devices to play movies on from different studios? One for Sony, one for Warner Bros? In any case more info will be forthcoming for sure. Probably a firm launch date – right now all I can find is fall – and the price (expect it to be 150). Thoughts?

I grabbed this video off YouTube before it gets yanked. Not the best quality but helps establish that this isn’t a hoax but a real leak. Also it confirms a new Metal Gear Solid is coming.

man, that thing looks fucking RETARDED! also, no UMD support? are they planning to offer the back catalog of UMDs as downloads? ONLY SONY KNOWS! Good to see another sony proprietary media platform go the way of the minidisc.

I don’t understand what’s wrong with the PSP Go. Looks like a more compact and efficient design, and they got rid of the main thing that many people complained about (UMD). What’s not to like?

I’ll tell you what i don’t like. With concepts like this floating around the internets… http://www.concept-phones.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/02/psp2.jpg WHY THE FUCK DID THEY GO WITH SUCH AN UGLY DESIGN! Also, no second analog nub = fail. Game selection will also fail. But I mean, what do i care? I never touch my PSP1000 as it is, so this clearly isn’t targeted at me.

I suspect they didn’t go with that design because it would be ridiculously expensive to make. Hot, yes. But also expensive. The 2nd nub issue is tricky, developers wouldn’t be able to use it unless they wanted to fracture the market of who plays their game, unless they include two VERY different control schemes. A change like a 2nd nub would really transform it into a PSP2, and that’s not what they’re going for right now.

All in all, though, I also don’t care, as I won’t buy one regardless.
