So ever since Valve announced that Left 4 Dead 2 was coming this year the flame boys of the Internet have been ablaze. Calling for boycotts and the souls of virgins. I’d like to take this opportunity to say

SHUT THE FUCK UP INTERNET!

Why? Because they are bitching that the game is getting a sequel but they feel it’s too soon. I don’t know if I feel that way or not but I do think that is a lame reason to bitch. There are dozen’s of games that get yearly releases and few people bitch. Well maybe more then a few. But it is a sound business model. It is a lot easier to sell an established franchise then to get one up and running.

So to me it makes perfect fiscal sense to release a new Left 4 Dead game this year. This franchise has the potential to be Valves version of Call of Duty. A yearly release that offers better game play and graphics while giving the player new locals to explore. Valve has said that the game engine underwent a lot of tweaking and expanding to the point that it is basically version 2.0 of the game. So why not release it as a brand new game?

The internet complain whores have also said that releasing the new game will fracture the community in half and decrease the quality of multiplayer gaming. I believe this to be an unfounded reactionary fear. If the game is kick ass it will still be played for years regardless of its sequels. Again look at Call of Duty. Both Modern Warfare and World at War are in the top five of games played every week. Hell Halo 2 was played by a shit ton of people for way too long. Halo blows by the way. Also let’s be honest here. The quality of online play is not an issue for the vast majority of people because we all tend to play online with friends only. Sure you’ll have a rousing game with some random people from time to time but the truth is you were online with a few buddies and ended up in a lobby with others. And you were just happy to not have a 13 year old fuck nut calling you the N-word or F-word (not fuck) every two seconds. Or that guy who leaves his mic on and plays Sheryl Crow real loud. I hate that guy. So you play with friends a lot more then random people.

I played survival mode on live with some random people a bunch of times and they are all fucking idiots who don’t know the first thing about teamwork. They just want the biggest gun and are only there trying to inflate their scores. The game is much more fun with friends working together.

The one thing about the so-called boycott I almost agree with is the price issue. 60 bucks is a lot for a game. And if these 4 levels could have been delivered as DLC at ten bucks a pop we might be getting screwed on the price. But I’ve honestly come to a conclusion to just trust in Valve. They delivered the greatest video game deal of all time of the last five years with The Orange Box. They haven’t told us how much L4D2 will cost but I suspect it won’t be more then 40 bucks. That is if Microsoft allows them to sell it that cheap.

Thoughts?

thought: the game will cost $60 and people will be allowed to choose whether or not to buy it. most of the people complaining about the price will buy it anyway, thus justifying the price.
