In the great tradition of breaking tradition before tradition has even been established, I submit for your approval a new feature of Bonus Level: A Case of the Webgame Mondays. A column in which we will post a webgame we’ve enjoyed and would like to share with all you “little brains” out there. And if you get the “little brains” joke, then I love you. Let’s get married, even if you’re a dude. I’d marry a dude.

I digress…

So, I mentioned up there before I started rambling that we’d be breaking tradition before tradition has even been established. Here’s why. Up this week is Project AM2R. (Another Metroid 2 Remake) It’s not really a webgame but you can FIND it on the web. The connection is tenuous, I know, but bear with me.

Get the Flash Player to see this content.

As you can see from the trailer, Project AM2R is amazing. It’s a downloadable .exe that you can run in windows. No need for emulation or anything. I’ve put up a link on our server so you can grab it without fear of it being a virus. WE’RE TRUSTWORTHY! Just unzip to a folder on your desktop and run the exe. I have found that it can suck on some resources, so be warned.

Project AM2R is currently in development, so what you’re playing is pretty much a demo. It gives you a good idea of what the full game will be like in a very short time frame. What that means is you’re able to super power Samus extremely fast. It’s like Metroid for people with A.D.D. and it’s incredible.

There’s a readme in there with the controls, but if you can’t be bothered I’ll outline them here: Arrow keys to move. Z and X keys are your Jump and Fire. Hold down Ctrl for missiles. That’s about all you need to know. Playing the game on a keyboard is not ideal but if you don’t have a controller handy, then that’s what you gotta do. I was able to get my PS3 sixaxis running under windows via the USB, and if you have one laying around, you might want to do the same. It’s worth it. You can also use bluetooth, but I went with USB.

If you have anymore questions, might I point you in the direction of the official FAQ.

Let’s all hope Nintendo doesn’t send out any C&D letters anytime soon. I’d love to play this full game.

If you try it out, sound off in the comments and let us know what you thought! :)

    AWESOME. Love me some Metroid.

GOD DAMMIT. I am watching this video for the 4th time and I’m thinking,

“Like Mega Man, why the f*** don’t these companies catch wind of this stuff, buy it up, and put this as DLC, this would be a definite buy.”

  • Paul

Agree. Instead of C&D letters, they should be sending these people paychecks and cashing in. Here’s a novel idea: how about instead of paying lawyers, you actually spend that money TO MAKE MONEY? Business model FAIL.

  • Lance

I think the companies get afraid that if they encourage this stuff in anyway that there would be a rush to try and cash in on the games. That there would be hundreds and shit remakes floating around and that it would cost them so much more in C&D letters trying to curb the crap then it would be to put out the quality ones.

Not that I agree with it I think they should encourage these kinds of developments and get these designers on their payrolls STAT.
