NEW-RPG

I need a new RPG. That really is the bare bones of it all. When I was younger during the glory days of the SNES I was a RPG junky. It would be safe to assume that thousands of hours were logged into various Final Fantasy’s alone. I was totally in love with Japanese RPGs. And when I got the first Playstation it was more of the same for me but with fancier graphics.

Overtime though my interests waned. I still love the steam punk design of the earlier Final Fantasy games but by the time Final Fantasy 10 rolled around the stories had become totally lame. I got totally sick of the 13 year old hairless wonder with a small penis yet a giant sword having a girlie voice saving the world for a girl who doesn’t quite like him but still wants to kick ass by using a spell that requires a 14 minute FMV every time you use it because its that special even though after the fourth time you use it it really isn’t that special even bind the quadcast materia with Knights of the Round in Final Fantasy 7? It was kind of like that but with less run on sentences.

However at this time the so-called western developers caught up. Bioware did Knights of the Old Republic and made every Star Wars fan weep with joy. Bethesda gave us Oblivion, and while Fable – while disappointing – was full of promise it needed a sequel to almost fulfill that promise.

So while I am in-between Gamefly games and cleaning up the house I am in need of a new RPG to bury myself into. The new Mario and Luigi game just came out and I was thinking of giving that a whirl. But truthfully I was pretty disappointed with Partners in Time. Superstar Saga is one of the best GBA games ever released on that platform. EVER. So maybe I’ll try the new Mario & Luigi game but if that doesn’t work out I’m looking for suggestions from the Bonus Level Community.

Just remember I don’t have a PS3 so any suggestions there aren’t going to help. So go forth and suggest me a game!

Funny this came up, i’ve been playing the Chrono Trigger OST over and over and have an itch to play it again, like whoa.

I was thinking about picking up Star Ocean for the 360, don’t know. It got good reviews but JRPGs these days… I played Eternal Sonata and the grinding kinda broke me. I used to have the patience as a kid, and now… enh.

I AM picking up FF13 though, FOR REALZ
    Mainly because: http://bulk2.destructoid.com/ul/146470-CA.jpg

(also, that dude in the Obama pic is diggin’ in DEEP, He’s 4 seconds away from being up to his fucking ELBOW!)

I have Chrono Trigger for the DS and play it so infrequently that I forgot what I’m supposed to do in the story! You’re right Paul that the worst part about most RPGs is the grind. I totally forgot to mention the grind. It’s pointless in most cases and totally unnecessary besides extending game length. Take WoW for instance why does the game really begin at level 60? After hundreds of hours of grinding? You know besides the money. Maybe we got spoiled by modern games that do a better job of hiding the grind. Think Mass Effect and Fallout 3.

I’m so old. Whenever I see ‘RPG’ I can’t help thinking ‘rocket propelled grenade’ instead. Like in RED DAWN where they go ‘MATT! RPG!’ And then nuke a Russian tank.
