This video may not be entirely accurate but it is worth a shot. I doubt any games that use Direct X heavily will work but some of the older games could work fine. Or I could just do a windows 7 partition and run Steam for reals. But frankly I don’t want to do all of that work reinstalling everything. And I don’t have a windows 7 disc. Here’s hoping for a miracle.

can be done in linux the same way. or a couple of different ways, too.

hmm. i’m curious if this actually works, there’s no proof of concept shown, IE: he never shows the game actually running. Also, how would games utilize features of your video card, like resolution, AA, HDR and what not? Are the drivers the same and the paths, etc? Do you even have a beefy video card in your mac? It’s not so much the steam installation and the game installation that are difficult, it’s actually getting 3D games to render correctly. I tried to run steam and steam games through ubuntu with limited results. Wonder if this is any better.

@Paul: one thing that you may not be aware of is that “vanilla” wine doesn’t have any tweaks built-in. the software being shown here, Crossover Games, is specially tweaked on a program by program basis for best results.

ah… which, i assume, justifies the price. got it.

  • Lance

The price is still too much to be honest considering that anyone looking to do this could easily run Boot Camp and run Windows natively. Something I’ve very much considering doing one of these days and joining in the L4D2 parade.

  • Paul

Don’t forget 16 player co-op on Serious Sam HD. Picking that one up whenever I get some monies. Some of the guys I play L4D with in NY are interested.

Would you recommend I stick with XP if I do this or go Windows 7?
