One of the true classic’s of the 16-bit era was Mario Paint. For many it was the inspiration to go into graphic design. I remember spending countless hours creating my own Zelda adventures with the crude animator that was built in. But the real joy of the game was the music creator. Now I’m pretty much tone deaf so all I could do was basic crap that sounded awesome to a tween. But I had some friends who became pretty skilled at it. They created massive opuses that required multiple carts to fully realize. It was epic and sounded so. The reason for this trip down memory lane came upon me late last night when I stumbled upon a wondrous download on the internet. Over at a website called UnFunGames.com they offer up a near perfect replica of Mario Paints composer ability. They’ve made some welcome updates to it, like being able to upload and save multiple songs. It’s available for both OSX and Windows and works like a charm on OSX. Oh, and if someone writes an awesome theme song using this program for our podcast, we will mail you a free t-shirt! The official Bonus Level shirt that we will be debuting at PAX East in a few weeks even. So get cracking!
