Entitled Pixels and with a running length of just under 11 minutes this short pixel art documentary takes us through the history and future of what is essentially the equivalent to gaming on a cellular level. Comprised of clips from notable pixel artists such as Paul Robertson and Superbrothers, animator Simon Cottee speaks with Jason Rohrer of Sleep is Death, Joe Brumm creator of “Dan the Man” and chiptune musician Alex Yabsley AKA Dot_AY about their respective relationships with the pixel art movement. The film brings up good points about the genre’s fit into art history proper and makes excellent arguments for games and even pixels as art.

Worth a watch.

I love pixel art. My favorite games of the past are the old sierra / lucas arts point and click adventure games. KQ, SQ, Day of the Tentacle. Scumm for life baby!

really, really, cool, but the guys monotone, and at times slipping british accent (sometimes sounding like Sean Connery imitating a british accent) bothered the hell out of me
