For the first time in a long time the whole gang is back! Jess is finally back from her most recent assignment and she brought Paul along with her. Just a fair bit of warning to all of our listeners who listen with speakers and not headphones – we got a bit blue. I know we use the explicit tag on iTunes and most of our listeners are adults but we all felt an extra bit of warning couldn’t hurt!

This week we tackle the Pre-Owned Game Debate, the true meaning of SCOTUS, Apples big forthcoming announcement, the need for physical media, nerd orgies and much much more!

That might have been the worst conversation ever recorded. Ever.

Yea Bill Gates and Lucas aren’t as rich anymore since they did that 50% donation thing with all the other rich people of America (no Oprah didn’t give 50%).

Here’s a question though, how come Scott Pilgrim was more on XBOX then PSN. I got it for $10 on PSN.

  • http://www.bonus-level.com Paul

It’s $10 on XBLA too, which is 800MS Points. It’s everything else that was released this summer that was 1200MS points.

  • Lance

Yeah both Shank and Scott Pilgrim were not part of the Summer of Arcade promotion that Microsoft does every year. That promotion gives you points back if you purchase all five games during the promotion. Shank and Scott Pilgrim came out one week after the deal ended which raises an eyebrow in my opinion.

Also here is an EXCELLENT op-ed about used games vs new games.

Yeah, that article is great and pretty much sums up my feelings on the matter. People buy used games for one reason only: because they are cheaper. If new games we not $60 a piece, I believe they’d sell more. Also, some games are just not worth picking up new at full retail, the bang to buck ratio just isn’t worth it.

I’d be curious to see if people bought more used games when new games were $49.99 a number of years ago.

    On another topic:

And now the price of live is going up too, bloated with features I won’t use and no hope of a tiered pricing structure. If MS said: we’re upping the price of Live because we’re adding ESPN and some other junk, then that’s fine. At least give me the option to say: I’ll never use that shit but I still want to play online with my friends and allow me to keep the old price. It’s a cash grab and I fucking hate it. I might just not renew when I’m up in less than a year. EAT DICKS, THE LOT OF YOU!

  • Lance

The price increase has to be a direct result of the other junk they’ve been adding to the service. We heard rumors for a while of them making a Platinum account for all of that premium content so gold members wouldn’t have to fit the bill for stuff they don’t or rarely use. This probably was done to avoid the three tiered system Still the price increase is only for the MRSP you can still find year subscriptions with a bonus month for 40 or less on the internet. I doubt that will change for the foreseeable future.

To quote Friday: It’s the “principality” for me. I’m not gonna roll over for these price hikes for content I don’t use just because I want to continue using the service they’ve been providing for years and were still raking in massive profits with. The Platinum account strategy would have been the better move instead of just jacking the price of Gold.

I rarely play online with people anyways, I’m pretty sure it’s service I can do without.

I’ll play the majority of my online games through Steam and use the 360 for single player games or local co-op titles, which is no different from what I do now, minus some of my PC gaming fearing friends.

Don’t get me wrong I think it’s a BAD idea coming at a BAD time for Live. I use Netflix a ton on my box and play games and download demos and such. But I don’t use the rest of the crap. I played with the twitter and facebook app just out of curiosity but I’ve never used the other stuff. Maybe with Hulu coming in the winter and ESPN3 I might use it more but I doubt it. The price increase is a bad bad idea.

I think there is going to have to be a face-off for the Super Fan titled. I didn’t listen to all 49 episodes to have the bid sniped at the last moment right before episode 50. It’s on!

Oh shit. Sorry, Pete. I’ll start building the Thunderdome.
