When we first started this website our knowledge of HTML and CSS and web design was somewhat limited. I knew just about nothing to be honest but we had a vision and I had a lot of time off. So we found a theme for the site that worked ok. With a lot of reworking and some plug-ins the site got better. But it was’t there yet.
In June we invited a bunch of people to contribute to the site on a regular basis. It’s hard to imagine the site without them now to be honest and we probably will expand the list of contributors again sometime in the future. But one of them had an interesting point about the site this past July. Jesse pointed out that the design of the site discouraged content like his NESessities of Life series because after a few posts the entry would get pushed down or off the main page. If we were going to grow as a site the old theme wasn’t going to cut it.
So over the last three months we’ve been working on finding the best way to achieve that. This new design that you are looking at is just that. It’s still a work in progress but it’s close enough that it was time for the change. We have just under 600 posts on this site and we are going back to all of them and re-categorizing them to fit this new theme. Some older posts might not display right. If you come across one please send an email to [email protected] and let us know. For the most part though we aren’t looking back but to the future! That didn’t sound as lame in my head….
Whether you love the look or hate it tell us. We don’t mind criticism all that much. We felt that this new design would highlight the longer form articles that are made while still allowing for the shorter quicker stuff we love to post. The site is a work in progress for us and it’ll be a while before it’s done (maybe two whole days!). But for now we were at a point where it was shit or get off the pot. We did all we could in our ‘testing grounds’ area and it was time to put in on the main site. It was time to dive in so to speak.
So pull up a chair, read some old posts or some new ones. It looks easy but everyone works really hard to not suck too hard at this. We really do hope you enjoy stopping by here and we hope you don’t hate what we are doing. If not why the hell do you still come here? Can’t be for my awesome speeling.
Also for those who want it if you click the headline image above it’ll take you to a special wallpaper, one that just so happens to be the correct dimensions for a Droid X.
