This is an open letter to Marvel Comics.
Dear Marvel Comics:
Seriously? You could not wait one more day? You could not wait 8 lousy hours? You simply HAD to be first.
I speak of Fantastic Four #587, where a character (shocker!) DIES. Granted, death in comics, or even specifically the FF, is nothing new. The Thing, Invisible Woman, and Mr Fantastic have all bit the big one for varied lengths of time. But THIS one, oh, this death would change EVERYTHING! This was soooo important that you even black bagged the issue and let comic shops get and release it a whole day early, Ignoring the fact that all other new comics would not be available to sell.
Instead, YOU release the spoiler of who dies and how, well before anyone has a chance to BUY the comic. So fans are treated to spoilers via twitter, or comic book boards, or through the bloody Associated Press! Nice job, gits.
It absolutely astounds me why you build this up to such a degree only to spoil it yourself, and for what reason? Isn’t it at all possible that you would be able to discuss it later in the day? Maybe give comic shops a chance to open up first?
Granted, the news would have come out anyhow. But rather than be part of the problem, you could have shown some restraint.
So congratulations! You scooped YOURSELF. For your next wise decision, will you bring back pouches and shoulder pads?
Don’t do the fans any favors.
