The other night Martin sent me the following email.
This convention is about internet culture. I think you should go and do a panel on Bonus Level Network.
That’s it. No “Hey Lance I thought this was close to your interests.” It was completely and utterly out of the blue. I had no clue what the hell he was talking about. I had three main questions:
- Are you serious?
- What is this con?
- What the heck do I have to offer for it?
The first question was answered pretty quickly. He was indeed being serious. He is already on schedule to be hosting a panel for the Con about surviving Z-Day. So this clearly wasn’t a joke. He was being serious even if I had a hard time picturing myself up there running a panel.
So what is the Intervention Con about? From what I can tell it’s about comics, art, bloggers, film, writers, gaming, music, and LARPing. So really it’s about everything. And frankly, outside of LARPing, I fully admit to be a fan of the rest and to some degree this site covers most of those topics. So as far as Cons go I am intrigued.
Even though Martin was serious and this Con sounds pretty cool, what the hell do I have to offer for it? We’ve been doing this site now for 2+ years and we are getting seriously close to episode 100 of Bonus Level Radio. This year alone we have launched five new shows expanding the scope of the site. We’ve had over 10000 downloads of our shows so far. We’re constantly tinkering and working to make our shows and our site sound and look better. Doing all of this takes a lot of effort, by a lot of people, taking up a lot of time that could be spent doing other things. But (speaking for the others) we do this because damn it it’s fun as hell. I love it.
So I think I am going to put together a proposal for this Intervention Con. See if they want me to do a panel. While I probably have to do this sooner rather than later I thought I would share my initial thoughts here on what I could cover. Even though anyone reading this probably won’t go to any panel I do, I welcome your suggestions and critiques.
- Equipment/software I use and why. Will delve into some of the technical limitations of podcasting on the cheap while doing my best to maintain a professional sounding show.
Producing Bonus Level Radio weekly and the hardships that come with that. I would want to touch upon all the work that goes into just producing the show weekly. And then talk about scaling that upwards to the other shows on the network.
What got us to do all of this. Maybe touch upon how a mush mouth shy dude thought it was a good idea to record and broadcast his crappy voice to the world. And how he convinced a bunch of people (most of whom he has never met) to join him on this adventure.
My netcasting philosophy. No idea. But sounds cool huh?
That’s my initial thought on what I could cover in a panel. I have no idea on the logistics of it whether I would be my own panel (Gods help us all if that’s the case), part of a panel or if some of the other hosts around here would show up making it a true Bonus Level Radio Network type panel. I’ll keep everyone informed about this. Until then I really want to hear from everyone reading this. Is this a stupid idea? What would you want me to talk about if you were attending this panel?
